How to Know When Your Car's Belts and Hoses are Failing

If you can identify when the hoses or belts on your car are close to failing, you could avoid a serious breakdown on the roads. Here are a few warning signs to look out for, as recommended by the Courtesy Volvo Cars of Chico auto service professionals.

The belts have to power different parts of the engine, from the water pump all the way to the radiator fan. If the belts fail, then those parts fail, and the engine will certainly overheat and breakdown. Listen for a squeaking sound coming from the belts. Also, worn belts will be shredding or appear to have cracks in them.

Hoses have to allow coolant to flow throughout the engine and other parts. If the hoses have soft spots or visible signs of cracking or splitting, they may be an indication the hoses could be failing. Visit our Chico service center and our team will take a closer look at the belts and hoses on your vehicle to replace if needed.
